K.R.K. Menon was Finance Secretary of India for a short period after Indian Independence from Great Britain from 1949 – 1950. The first one rupee notes printed by the government of India after Independence bear the signature of the first Finance Secretary of India KRK Menon. The first Governor of the Reserve Bank of India was C.D. Deshmukh. All banknotes from that period carry the signature of C.D. Deshmukh with the exception of the 1 Rupee note, which bears the signature of the Finance Secretary K.R.K. Menon.
This is an interesting photograph from the archives of the World Bank. Madam Vijaya Lakshmi Pandit, India’s Ambassador to the United States, signs the agreement for the first loan made by the World Bank in Asia on August 18, 1949. Madam Pandit was also the first woman to sign a World Bank loan agreement. On her right is K.R.K. Menon, Indian Finance Secretary; behind her is B. R. Sen, Indian Minister to the United States; and to her left is World Bank President Eugene Black.
1964 1 rupee note S.Bhootlingam is rarest one rupee note with high value , second is 1949 K R K menon one rupee note and 3rd is 1957 L K Jha 1 rs note with B inset and Y prefix , but beware too many forgeries out there so be careful before buying .
1995,1996,1997 all notes are fake .

The 1 Rupee gray-green banknotes are considered rare and were issued on August 12, 1949 with his signature as Finance Secretary. The obverse bears the signature of K.R.K. Menon and the Ashoka Pillar Capital in the circle. On the reverse is a floral arrangement inside a circle and the language panel has 8 Indian languages. The watermark is the Ashoka Pillar.
