This video is about a 100 years old Indian handmade double locking padlock.

Padlocks were invented about 3000 years ago by Egyptians and then it through a lot of changes. The first all metal padlocks were made by English craftsmen around 900 AD.

This design is about 100 years old which were used in different parts of the central and northern India such as Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

It is an Indian unbranded handmade double-locking padlock. The base metal is iron and brass strips have been used to decorate the outer portion. Riveting is used to join the pieces together. The weight of the padlock is about 840 grams. The length is 5 inches, height is 4 inches and the width is 1.75 inches. A flap on the front side covers the keyhole.

To open the double locking system we have to rotate the key to the left side first until the left side portion slides out. The key has to be rotated right to open the lock on right side which will unlock it fully.

The key is not needed for locking the double locking system. The right side portion of the lock has to be inserted first until a clicking sound is heard, which indicates that the right side is locked. Similarly, the left side is inserted until a clicking sound is again heard confirming the completeness of the procedure.
We will need the key again to open it.
