One of the oldest markets in Mumbai ,the market is about 150 years old .Initially Chor Bazaar was known as Shor bazaar which means noisy market. The Britishers could not pronounce it properly and Shor bazaar became Chor bazaar. The word “Chor” means thief in Marathi and Hindi
The area is one of the tourist attractions of Mumbai.
The market has a lot of second hand goods and items on sale, and not stolen goods as the name goes.
The market is now famous for Antique and Vintage items. Many shops sell old Bollywood Posters, authentic Victorian furniture, replacement parts for automobiles ,etc.
On Fridays the antique shops in the area are closed ,and some small dealers set up small temporary shops in the lanes of chor bazaar selling all types of goods and items.
you can get any item in Chor bazaar on a Friday like clothes, antiques, vintage items ,shoes, mobiles ,laptops, decorative items, Etc
There is no fixed price on any items out for sale, so people are allowed to bargain. I suggest people should haggle a bit to get a good bargain.
Its Anybody’s guess what you may get on a Friday ,and you have to have a bit of knowledge about what is that you are going there to buy.
Some of the dealers selling their wares on a Friday market have been doing this since the last 40 odd years.
Chor bazaar location – It is located at Mutton Street, near Bhendi Bazaar in Grant Road, South Mumbai
