The Indian Currency coins that we use today is in accordance with the current Monetary System of India and is popularly known as the ‘Decimal Series’. In easy language, 1 Rupee = 100 Paisa in Decimal Series Monetary System. However, during the times of British India, the Monetary System that was followed was not so simple and straight forward. British India Monetary System had more number of denominations and overall different calculation as compared to Republic India. British India Monetary System was known as the ‘Anna Series’.

Under Anna Series of British India we come across variety of coins like – 1 Pie, Half Paisa, 1 Paisa, Quarter Anna, Half Anna, 1 Anna, 2 Annas, Quarter Rupee, Half Rupee, One Rupee and Gold Mohur. Among these there are many old copper coins and many are British India Silver Coins. Also there were few exceptional denomination British India coins as well like 8 Anna coin and 4 Anna coin.
