Cleopatra, the last true Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt, is still known today as one of history’s most captivating rulers. Now, over 2,000 years later, her timeless beauty and power live on in this stunning 2-ounce silver round. Beautifully struck in .999 fine silver, this addition to the Egyptian Gods series perfectly combines both raised and incuse elements to give Cleopatra a lifelike and radiant glow. The obverse is exquisitely sculpted in high relief of varying heights and depths to give Cleopatra a lifelike, 3-dimensional appearance. Cleopatra is shown lounging on a chaise with her face in profile, reminiscent of ancient Egyptian art. To her left is a cartouche (carved tablet) bearing her royal lineage. To her right is the Eye of Horus, a powerful ancient Egyptian symbol of protection and royal power. Below it is a bowl of figs, said to have been used to smuggle in the poisonous snake which killed the Egyptian Queen. The infamous snake is seen slithering down her left shoulder. The reverse displays the Goddess Isis in the center, of whom Cleopatra was believed to be a reincarnation. She kneels in front of a pyramid and a wall of hieroglyphics taken from ancient papyri about the Queen. The banner of the scarab beetle – a powerful force in Egyptian mythology – rests below. The silver weight and purity are engraved in a hieroglyphic design at the bottom, surrounded by a pattern found on the outer wall of the Temple of Horus. The bottom of the round features an arrangement of lotus reeds as would be found blooming in the river Nile.
Take a tour through the Egyptian Underworld with the new Anubis 2 oz Ultra High Relief Silver Round from Provident Metals. Investors in silver bullion will delight in the craftsmanship and quality of the round, while collectors of Egyptian history will be mesmerized by the god of the dead.
The Anubis round is the second release in the Egyptian Gods Series. Anubis depicts the half man/half jackal Egyptian god that performs various roles in the afterlife. Anubis is tasked with protecting gravesites from wandering jackals and able to fight “like with like,” being part jackal, himself.
The obverse of the Anubis round, exclusively from Provident Metals, features Anubis alongside the “Scales of Justice.” The scales are used in the “weighing of the heart” ceremony where the heart of a newly deceased individual, the initiant, is weighed against a feather. Should the feather outweigh the heart, the deceased will move to the afterlife; however, if the heart outweighed the feather, the heart is devoured by a crocodile and the initiant is sent to the lake of fire. Also featured on the obverse is a mummified falcon, a jar of embalming fluid, and a skull.
Displayed on the reverse is a pyramid, reminiscent of those built in the Giza pyramid complex, located on the outskirts of Cairo, Egypt. In addition to the pyramid, a jackal sits atop a winged sun disc, guarded by two serpents known as the “uraeus” or “king’s protection.” Beautifully detailed hieroglyphics, spelling the name, ”Anubis”, create an eye-catching field. Traditional Egyptian lotus flowers spring from the bottom of the round and border the round’s notated characteristics.
Known as the god of the Nile, Khnum is one of the oldest Egyptian gods. His name means “builder,” which ties into his role as a creator. Khnum was believed to have molded humankind on a potter’s wheel using mud found along the shore of the Nile. Khnum is depicted as a ram-headed man who is often seen carrying a scepter. A ram perches atop the table, an earthly representation of Khnum. The obverse features the ram-headed Egyptian god, Khnum, who was associated with the Nile River and procreation. Here, Khnum is seen carving out the figure of a man, with an assortment of pottery and tools on display in the background.
Known as Lord of the Waters, Sobek is the god of strength, power, and fertility. Sobek has a protective instinct and he guarded the pharaoh, the Egyptian people, and the army. In fact, mummified crocodiles have been found in numerous tombs guarding the humans who were laid to rest there.
Khnum is the fourth release in the popular limited edition Egyptian Gods series of 2 oz ultra high relief silver rounds, following Cleopatra, Anubis, and Sobek. Each round in this series showcases a detailed sculpt of the featured god or goddess on the obverse, along with a pyramid and thematic devices on the reverse.
