I got this awesome coin in the mail today. It’s really hard to come by in the US, and you’ve probably heard me talk about it before.
A little about the coin:
The Perth Mint continues its young Silver Emu Series with this stunning coin. This second issue in the series features a rare variety from the prestigious source of some of the world’s favorite coin. Part of a total mintage of just 30,000 pieces, which includes coins that were struck properly, this piece bears a “P” mint mark. It was struck from 1 oz of .9999 fine silver.
A portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark features on the obverse. The monarch faces right with her shoulders open to the holder. She wears her Royal Diamond Diadem, which she wore at her coronation, with a apart of it extending into the rim frame. Inscriptions in that frame include “ELIZABETH II,” “AUSTRALIA,” and “1 DOLLAR.”
Natasha Muhl designed the reverse, where two emus stand in the Australian outback. The birds are shown at different angles, giving the holder the opportunity to examine this unique creature in stunning detail. Behind the bird on the right is a barren tree. The trunk of the tree was supposed to have a matte finish, like the rest of the background. On this variety piece, though, it has a shiny finish as the bird’s other legs, making it appear almost like a third leg. The coin’s name, “AUSTRALIAN EMU,” is inscribed along the rim at the top, while inscriptions on the bottom portion of the rim provide essential information about the coin. They read, “2019 1 OZ. 9999 SILVER.”
