காதலர் தினம் எதுக்காக கொண்டாடுறாங்க?

ரோமானிய அரசர் ஒருவர் அவரது நாட்டில் திருமணங்கள் நடக்கக் கூடாது என்றும், ஏற்கனவே நடைபெற்ற குற்றங்கள் செல்லாது என்றும் ஒரு உத்தரவை வெளியிட்டு இருந்தார்.
இந்த உத்தரவை மீறி, வேலன்டைன்ஸ் எனும் பாதரியார் ஒருவர் ரகசியமாக மற்றவர்களுக்கு திருமணங்களை நடத்தி வந்திருந்தார். இதனையறிந்த அரசர், பாதரியாரை சிறையில் அடைத்து வைத்துள்ளார்.
சிறைக்கு சென்ற பாதரியார், அங்கிருந்த காவலாளியின் மகளிடம் பழக்கம் ஏற்பட்டு, காதலித்துள்ளார். இருவரும் காதலித்து வந்த நிலையில், இந்த விஷயம் மன்னரின் காதுக்கு வந்து.
இதனையடுத்து கோபமடைந்த அரசர், பாதரியாரை சித்ரவாதை செய்து, தூக்கிலிட்டார். அந்த நாளே உலக மக்கள் அனைவராலும் காதலர் தினமாக கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகிறது. ஒருவரின் தியாகத்தை நினைவு கூரும் விதமாக இந்த தினம் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
இதுவே காதலர் தினத்தின் வரலாறு.
உயிருக்கும், உணர்வுக்கும் இடையில் உள்ள இடைவெளியில் இந்த காலர் தினத்தை கொண்டாடுவோம். தியாகம் நிறைந்த நாள் இது. இந்த தினத்தின் மேன்மையை குறைக்காதவாறு கொண்டாடுவோம். காதல் செய்வோம், இந்நாளில் உலகில் அன்பை நெய்வோம். இனிய காதலர் தின வாழ்த்துகள்.
