The Parrot is a large group of birds with curved beaks and oftentimes-colorful plumage. There are nearly 375 known species of Parrots, all of which are in the taxonomic order Psittaciformes.
Researchers divide these birds into three primary groups, or super families. The three super families are the true Parrots, the cockatoos, and the New Zealand Parrots.
Though many species are quite similar, Parrots are an immensely diverse group of birds. They come in many different shapes, sizes, and colors. As a whole, all of them have curved bills and zygodactyl toes, with two facing forward and two facing backward.
Their coloration varies from species to species, and some are orange, green, blue, yellow, red, black, white, and more.

கிளி (Parrot) சித்தாசிடே குடும்பத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவை. இவற்றுள் சுமார் 86 இனங்களைச் சார்ந்த 372 வகைகள் உள்ளன. இவை சிறப்பியல்பான வளைந்த வலுவான அலகினை உடையவை. கிளியின் கால்கள் முன்பக்கம் இரண்டும்,
பின்பக்கம் இரண்டுமாக நான்கு விரல்களைக் கொண்டவை. கிளியின் சராசரி ஆயுட்காலம் 50 ஆண்டுகள். கிளிகள் மிகவும் புத்திசாலி பறவைகள். கிளியால் தன் அலகுகளின் மேல் அலகை மட்டுமே அசைக்க முடியும்.
இவற்றிற்கு கேட்கும் சக்தி அதிகம். கிளி ஓராண்டிற்கு ஒரு முட்டை மட்டுமே இடும். கிளிகள் உலகின் அனைத்து வெப்பமண்டல மற்றும்
மிதவெப்ப மண்டல கண்டங்களிலும் காணப்படுகின்றன. ஆஸ்திரேலியா,
மத்திய அமெரிக்கா மற்றும் தென்அமெரிக்கப்பகுதிகளில் காணப்படுவனவற்றுள் அதிக வேறுபாடுகளைக் காணமுடிகிறது. பத்து கிராம் அளவில் இருந்து 4 கிலோ வரையிலான எடையிலும், 8 செ.மீட்டர் முதல் ஒரு மீட்டர் வரையிலான அளவுகளிலும் காணப்படுகின்றன. விதைகளும், பழங்களும், கொட்டைகளும், பூக்களும், மொட்டுக்களும் மற்றும் தாவரம்
சார்ந்த பிற பொருட்களுமே கிளிகளின் முக்கிய உணவுகள். கிளிகள்
மனிதர்களைப் போலவே ஒலி எழுப்ப வல்லவை. பயிற்சி அளித்தால் சில
வார்த்தைகளை உச்சரிக்கும்.
